This trek can be undertaken by alighting at Mahad and then
take a bus which goes to Raigadwadi, alight at Khubladau bhuruj. Climb
over a broad winding path which takes one to Walsure Khind on the right side and then to a bifurcation . The left trail goes to Masjid Morcha, a small cave carved out of rock-face.
The right one takes to the fort within an hour.
After reaching the top, the first thing is Hatti tank ahead of which is Zilla parishad
Guest house then the Gangasagar tank. Ahead of this tank the trail goes to Hirkani
bhuruj. From here one can come back and
go to MTDC and then to the Ranimahal, Shivaji Maharajs palace, his court and Nagarkhana. Holicha mal, a market place is worth visiting and then proceed to Takmak tok. From here one can visit Jagdishwar temple, Shivaji Maharajs
Samadhi and ahead of the temple is eastern most end of Raigad, Bhavani point. From the top a treacherous route takes one to Bhavani temple over the cliff and then
climb back up from other side. From Raigad one can see Pratapgad, Makarandgad, Kokan diva, Rajgad, the "kavlya"-"ravlya"
khind from where "itigatkhan" attacked Raigad.
After visiting Raigad one can visit Pachad wada and Jijamatas ( Shivaj maharajs mother) Samadhi. The wada was Jijamats residence in her old age which is a small
fort with a moat around it. It was here that Jijamata passed away on 18th June, 1674.
Did you know, Shivaji had 8 wives in all and there are only 6 "mahals" in the "Rani-vasa". This aberration is because, Shivaji's
true love, Saibai died after child birth (Sambhaji) and one of his wife "Putalabai" was living at Pachad taking care of Maasaheb. Shivaji Maharajs coronation took place on 6th June, 1674 and six years later i.e on 3rd April, 1680 he met an untimely death on the same fort.
