This titanic shaped small fort (1550ft.) is situated to the east of Karjat & is one of the famous
treks of Karjat area, because of its small height and easy climbing. Taking a bus from Karjat alight at last stop, Jambrukh. There are two routes, one from Ambivali,
through a cart track and another from Jambrukh via a small trail. So it is better
to trek from Jambrukh and climb down to Ambivali. It takes around one hour to
reach the Peth village. From the village follow the path and reach the fort within
half an hour.
On
entering the fort one can see a path on the right that leads to the cave a little ahead.
The path on the far left encircles the fort. After seeing the cave one
can proceed to the top by the steps carved from inside. From the top, the Bhimashankar
range, the Wandre khind, and on careful observation the Mumbai-Pune railway and the Matheran region can be seen in the west. After having a view around, climb down to the Peth village. From here take route to Ambivali and reach within 2 hours or so.
From Ambivali one can visit a large cave, 1 km ( near Van vihar) which is worth seeing.
Return to the village and catch a bus to Karjat.
