Lohgad trek could be supplemented by Visapur trek, Bhaje caves
& Karla caves in two days programme. From Lonavala take a local train to Malavli station.
Lohgad is situated about 5 Km. From Malavli a tar road takes one to Bhaje
village within 20 minutes. From
here one can go to Bhaje caves by well constructed steps which is around 10 minutes.
For Lohgad one
can go back to Bhaje village and take a left path to Lohgad or from the caves one can take the path which descends down to
the stream below and crossing this stream the path joins the cart road coming from Bhaje village. There are two forts Visapur on the left and Lohgad on the right.
The col in between is know as Gai-khind. Reaching here within 30 minutes one tends to take rest and proceed to Lohgadwadi
which is within 5 minutes. Here one can have hot tea, Poha and proceed to the fort. On the way to the top there
are four successive entrances, the Ganesh darwaja, Narayan darwaja, Hanuman darwaja and Maha darwaja. After entering through Maha darwaja, on the left there is a tomb and as one advances further along
the fortification one comes across a big rock cut cave. This cave is known as
Lomesh rishi cave. From the top, Tung and Tikona hills are seen to the
south, Dukes nose at west, Pavana dam offers a wonderful view in the south direction.
A narrow spur of the fort stretches westwards which is fortified on both sides known as Vinchu-kata (Scorpions sting ). One can spend the night in Lomesh rishi
cave and next morning within one hour one can complete the visit of the fort and head for Visapur
